The family mediation program of CMC helps families make important decisions about: the future of their relationship, and child custody and visitation arrangements. For over twenty years CMC has been helping families who contact us directly, or are referred by the court or social service agencies. CMC accepts referrals at any stage of the dispute. Trained community volunteers conduct the mediations.
Recognized nationally and on the state level senior staff incorporate principles of community mediation, teach and use a transformative approach, and design all mediations with the safety of the participants as the prime concern. Parties are treated respectfully and encouraged to define what problems they want to work on and in what fashion.
Staff meets separately with those involved at an initial interview. The highly skilled mediators hear the parties stories, ascertain that everyone is freely choosing to participate, and determines if a mediation would be an appropriate conflict resolution strategy. Schedules are discussed and fee arrangements are made. CMC is committed to removing barriers to quality mediation service and charges on a sliding fee basis.
All CMC mediators have fulfilled the requirements set by the Supreme Court of the State of Ohio in the Rule of Superintendence #16. CMC mediators are supervised by senior staff that has more than 40 years of mediation experiences, which include, teaching at colleges and universities, offering specialized trainings in domestic abuse and truancy mediation, and publishing numerous articles in professional and academic journals.
