Mediation Training

Since our inception, Cleveland Mediation Center has been involved in training mediators, initially training those interested in acting as volunteer mediators at CMC. As our reputation in training grew, CMC began to offer mediation training to the general public. We offer our Fundamentals of Mediation Training several times each year, and Advanced Mediation training courses annually for those who have completed the Fundamentals class.

Fundamentals of Mediation

This highly interactive 20 hour training will provide an introduction to mediation using demonstrations and practice as well as lecture, discussion, and situational case studies. This is a practical course, incorporating a best practices approach to mediating.

Uniform Mediation Act
Active Listening
Five Phase Facilitative/Empowerment Model
Client Centered Approach
Cultural Influences

Cost is $450 for the 3-day training.

2019 Training Schedule:

Spring Session: March 26th - 28th

Summer Session: June 18th - 20th

Fall Session: October 1st - 3rd

This training will take place from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm each day at Adoption Network Cleveland, 4614 Prospect Ave E #550, Cleveland, Ohio 44103

This course has been approved for 19.5 CEUs for counselors and social workers and 18 CLEs.

40-Hour Advanced Family and Divorce Mediation

This training prepares attendees to mediate a full divorce from start to finish and covers the advanced mediation skills necessary to work with families in high conflict situations. Attendees will be prepared to mediate a wide variety of family conflicts including parent/child conflict, conflict over elder care, issues over custody and parenting plans, and permanency placements. Attendees will learn key topics like parenting plans, child custody, discussing financial issues, division of assets and property, and spousal and child support. Attendees will practice new skills in a role play setting with coaching from the trainers. These skills are useful for mediators, attorneys, or other professionals who wish to mediate family cases, including divorce.

Spousal/Child Support

Special topics in divorce and family mediation

October 7th - 11th 2019

This class, in conjunction with both the Fundamentals of Mediation and Domestic Abuse Issues course, fulfills the training requirements for the Supreme Court of Ohio's Rule 16 - for mediators that wish to mediate family cases.

The 20 hour Fundamentals of Mediation training is a prerequisite to this course.
 

Early registration (before August 1st): $950

Standard registration (after August 1st): $1000

This 5 day training will take place 9:00 am - 5:30 pm each day at Adoption Network Cleveland, 4614 Prospect Ave E #550, Cleveland, Ohio 44103

35.75 CLEs (2.5 attorney conduct hours).

20.75 CEUs.

24-Hour Advanced Family Mediation

This training is the first three days of the longer Advanced Family and Divorce Mediation Training and covers the advanced mediation skills necessary to work with families in high conflict situations. Attendees will be prepared to mediate a wide variety of family conflicts including parent/child conflict, conflict over elder care,  issues over custody and parenting plans, and permanency placements. These skills are useful for counselors, therapists, social workers, or other professionals working with families that want to add mediation to their practice.

Assessing appropriateness for mediation

Parenting Plans

Model Standards of Conduct

Child Custody

Protection Orders

Domestic Abuse screenings

Managing power dynamics

Guiding parties past an impasse

*Please note that if your intention is to fulfill the training requirements for the Supreme Court of Ohio's Rule 16 - for mediators that wish to mediate family cases - you will need to take the full 5 day training listed above.

The 20 hour Fundamentals of Mediation training is a prerequisite to this course.

Domestic Abuse Issues in Mediation

The point at which couples separate is often when they seek options like mediation. but it is also the most dangerous time if there is any aspect of domestic abuse. This course covers the broader descriptions of domestic abuse vs. the legal definition of domestic violence, screening, ending dangerous mediations, protection orders and times in which conditional mediations may be appropriate. 

This class, in conjunction with both the Fundamentals of Mediation and Advanced Family and Divorce Mediation course, fulfills the requirements for the Supreme Court of Ohio's Rule 16 - for mediators that wish to mediate family cases.

The 20 hour Fundamentals of Mediation training is a prerequisite to this course.

CLE’s and CEU’s are available for most trainings.
