Beginning in August, Cleveland Mediation Center is partnering with Presiding Judge Deborah J. Nicastro of the Garfield Heights Municipal Court to provide mediation services to landlords and tenants for eviction cases in Brecksville, Cuyahoga Heights, Garfield Heights, Independence, Maple Heights, Newburgh Heights, Valley View and Walton Hills. Mediation creates an opportunity for parties to jointly resolve their concerns prior to their first scheduled court date. For landlords and tenants, mediation can be a less costly, less stressful alternative to litigation.
For landlords, mediation can save time and money, as well as lower the risk of property damage. For tenants, mediation can help to maintain current housing, or schedule a move out plan that works for everyone involved, without an eviction judgement appearing on the tenant’s record. Mediation can help both parties improve communication, and/or end the landlord/tenant relationship in a peaceful way. Most importantly, mediation allows parties to make their own decisions and agreements, which ensures plans that suit everyone’s needs.
